About MacKenzies Restaurant

The History of MacKenzies Restaurant

The restaurant is named after the famous Henry MacKenzie , an Edinburgh born lawyer and writer, who lived in the cottage adjacent to the restaurant.

He is best known for his novel ‘The Man of Feeling’ .

MacKenzie, while editor of a short lived periodical ” The Lounger” wrote an article in December issue 1786, praising Robert Burns poems. This helped to make Robert Burns a well known name in literary circles.

Burns himself regarded ‘The Man of Feeling’ as “a book I prize next to the Bible” .
